Driven by the digital data revolution, the
emerging domain of motion imagery (MI) is rapidly asserting itself as an
eminent 21st Century communication medium for information serving and knowledge
exchange. Technology explosions in video sensors, computational and networking
infrastructures are heralding the next leap forward and creating opportunities
to design entirely new systems with extraordinary capability to support
government, military and industry applications. Contributing to this drive
are new neurological data related to the performance of the human visual
and perceptual systems that lead to introduction of radically new design
concepts. Computer scientists, MI researchers, developers and users of digital
imaging technology met to define the state-of-the-art in MI, the emerging
infrastructure requirements of user communities, and to identify Grand Challenge
R&D opportunities that will drive further advances.
Discussions and recommendations made at the workshop will be summarized.
Current MI challenges will be discussed, and the future of MI in the next
5 to 10 years anticipated. The BOF Session will serve to initiate discussions
that will lead to the definition of a national MI research agenda. |
